CHANDIGARH: The Chandigarh
municipal corporation will discuss an estimated Rs 1,470.59 crore
budget for the upcoming financial year in the Finance and Contract Committee (F&CC) of the civic body on Monday, after which the budget will be placed in the special general house for discussion and approval on Friday.
Out of the total amount, Rs 1,026.88 has been kept under revenue expenditure segment and Rs 443.71 under capital expenditure. The revenue expenditure is meant to meet expenses like salaries, pension and bills of the corporation employees, whike the capital expenditure will go towards developmental works.
As management of solid waste has turned out to be a crucial component for the civic body and the
National Green Tribunal (NGT) has also been monitoring each and every move relating to sanitation, the corporation has earmarked Rs 50 crore for the medical office of health wing, which monitors sanitation and related affairs.
“Since, the (MC) authority has to purchase over 300 twin-bin vehicles and create other related infrastructure for the management of the solid waste, a significant money has been kept aside for the same,” said an official.
Besides other segments, the civic body also plans to push its own revenue from Rs 208 crore to Rs 397 crore in the next financial year. Revenue generation is crucial component and a major portion of it is seen to be coming through the increased effected in water bills. Although the municipal corporation has prepared an ambitious budget for the upcoming financial year, how much funds they will get from the UT remains to be seen.
During the current financial year, the finance department released a meagre Rs 373 crore grant-inaid to the civic body, and even that was given in instalments.
