CHANDIGARH: A day before the revised parking rates come into effect, Indian Railway Stations Development Corporation Limited (IRSDC) decided to reduce the rate of monthly pass for two-wheelers from the proposed Rs 1,500 to Rs 1,000.
An IRSDC spokesperson said the decision was taken in consideration of the demand by daily passengers at the Chandigarh railway station and revision will be implemented from Saturday onwards.
Officials said after the demand to review the parking rates was raised by the passengers, IRSDC sent a revised proposal for the monthly pass to headquarters and received approval for the same. The parking contractors were informed about the new rates for two-wheelers on Friday.
An average of 500 rail commuters park their vehicles at the city railway station every day. After IRSDC's decision to revise the parking rates, passengers were not pleased about shelling out hefty sums.
IRSDC representatives from Chandigarh said the existing parking rates are more than five years old. Pick and drop will be free for the first nine minutes at the station.
