HYDERABAD: AIMIM president
Asaduddin Owaisi took umbrage at sedition charges filed against a school headmistress in Karnataka’s Bidar for staging a play against CAA in her school. He expressed hope that the charges against the headmistress,
Farida Begum, would be dropped soon. He met
Bidar district SP T Sreedhara on Saturday in connection with the arrest of the headmistress of Shaheen Urdu Medium Primary School.
“Met with SP Bidar. We strongly objected to arrest & sedition charge for a school play. He said it’s under investigation & sedition maybe removed I said this should’ve been done before arresting these women as they are local residents. How can a school play be a crime? (sic)” he tweeted.
Farida and Najamunnisa, mother of a student, were arrested after social activist Neelesh Rakshal filed a complaint. An FIR under sedition charges was filed against them.
After meeting the headmistress and Navida in Bidar Prison, Owaisi tweeted: “In a condemnable incident, they were arrested by Bidar police for sedition in connection with a school play.”
Six children, who acted in the play, were below 10 and examined by cops in presence of their parents. Staffers of the school were also questioned.
Owaisi also opposed KTR’s idea of adopting Mumbai’s traffic model. “This is a primitive way of punishing entire traffic at a traffic signal because of few cars honking...,” he tweeted.
