NOIDA: A private hospital has performed the district’s first Hyperthermic Intraperitoneal Chemotherapy (HIPEC) procedure. HIPEC is a highly concentrated, heated chemotherapy treatment perfomed at 41 degree Celsius delivered locally and directly to the affected abdomen area during surgery.
The procedure was done on a 61-year-old woman who was suffering from stage three ovarian cancer. The treatment is said to enhance positive results in advanced stages of cancer as against traditional chemotherapy through intravenous mean.
“We’ve successfully conducted the first HIPEC procedure in the district on a woman from Hisar who was suffering from stage 3 ovarian cancer. The treatment consisted of a combination of surgery and chemotherapy. It was a 10-hour procedure,” said Dr Jalaj Baxi, senior surgeon at a private hospital in Noida.
