Coronavirus: Two samples from Patiala, one from Ropar sent for testing; suspects kept under observation at home

PATIALA: Two residents from Patiala and one from Ropar have been kept under observation by the health department after they were suspected of Coronavirus. They had recently returned from China while the Ropar resident returned from Wuhan airport in China.
The Ropar health department claimed that the resident is an employee in a private software company in Zirakpur and return to Ropar at the weekends. “The resident has been identified as a middle-aged man who returned from Wuhan that witnessed several confirmed patients of the deadly virus but the Ropar resident did not meet any local person there and have visited only the Airport. He returned to India on January 23. Our health teams are in touch with him and have given him and his family members the instructions regarding the care need. We have sent his sample for testing on Saturday to National Institute of Virology (NIV), Pune. There’s no need to worry. The suspected patient had not shown any symptoms of the virus so far,” said, Chief Medical Officer Ropar, Dr HN Sharma.
Sharma said that there was no need to keep the suspected patient at an isolated ward as he had not shown any symptoms of the virus.
Wuhan is said to have been affected with the ‘2019 nCov’ - virus that originated in Hubei province of China and the death toll has risen to 259 and over 12000 confirmed cases.
Similarly, in Patiala district, two patients have been kept under observation after they had returned from Guangzhou, China on January 20. They had gone to China for a business person. One of the suspected patients is from Rajpura town of Patiala district while another is from Patiala city. The samples were collected on Friday in accordance with the directions of the state health department. The patients were called at government Rajindra hospital on Friday but the hospital was reluctant to administer the patients but later with the intervention of a health officer they were taken to isolation ward with all safety measures. The suspected patients were later sent to home with guidelines for home isolation.
District Epidemiologist, Sumeet Singh, at Government Rajindra Hospital, said, “The patients had not shown any positive symptoms of the coronavirus. It was just they had returned from China and we are keeping a vigil over them. Our teams have given the guidelines to the suspected patient and his family members and he has been advised to remain isolated.”
