Balasore: A Class VII student from Madhupara in Basta block of Balasore district has been invited by President Ram Nath
Kovind to attend a tea party in New Delhi, scheduled to be held in March or April.
Biplab Kumar Ghosh (12), son of Sushanta Kumar Ghosh from Madhupara, received the invitation from the President’s office for his innovation in the field of agriculture.
He studies in Upendra Nath Nodal Upper Primary School.
Biplab, with the help of his teachers and some of his classmates, invented a solar-run farming equipment that will make farming less labour-intensive and help save time.
Biplab said, “I used to see my father working in the fields all through the day under the scorching heat of the sun. It was then that I had made up my mind to create a machine that will help my father in farming.” He added, “I later decided to make a machine that will save time, reduce labour and cut down other expenses as well.”
Biplab took the help of his teachers and some classmates to come up with the innovative multi-tasking machine by spending Rs 10,000.
Called Seeds and Fertilizer, the machine can do six different works simultaneously. They include preparation of land before sowing seeds, ploughing, sprinkling water and pesticides, sowing seeds and applying manure, he said
Biplab had showcased his invention at the district-level, state-level and national-level science exhibition and won medals for the same. He was recently felicitated with the INSPIRE Award MANAK (Million Minds Augmenting National Aspirations and Knowledge).
Chinmay Kumar Nanda, headmaster-in-charge of the Upendra Nath Nodal school, said, “The machine designed by Biplab was among the seven projects to be selected for INSPIRE Awards MANAK. It will run on solar energy and help save time and expenses.”
Notably, the Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research (INSPIRE) scheme is one of the flagship programmes of the department of science & technology (DST). The scheme aims to motivate students in the age group of 10 to 15 years and studying in Classes VI to X.
