BEGUSARAI/PATNA: A 24-year-old man killed his wife in Begusarai district late Friday night after she refused to give him Rs 25,000 to buy a cellphone. Police said that Vikrant Paswan assaulted his 20-year-old wife Kajal Kumari at Paswan Tola under Khodabandhpur police station around midnight.
The couple had heated argument over the issue in the evening. But Vikrant woke up around midnight and strangled Kajal. He hanged the body from the ceiling fan to make it appear to be a case of suicide. Vikrant, a daily wager, escaped. Kajal, who belonged to Sakh Mohan village in neighbouring Samastipur district, had got married to Vikrant in 2018.
Khodabandhpur SHO Dinesh Kumar said a complaint was lodged against Vikrant and his mother Neelam Devi had been arrested. Kajal’s mother Sheela Devi has accused her son-in-law of harassing her daughter for dowry.
