Eatery owner, stabbed by four miscreants, dies in Limbayat

Surat: A roadside eatery owner, who was stabbed by four persons on the night of January 26, died during treatment in a hospital in the early hours of Saturday. The attackers had refused to pay money for the food they consumed at the eatery following which a fight started between them.
Bhargav Chaudhary, 32, a resident of Khodiyar Nagar, was stabbed with a sharp-edged weapon by one of them. This led to heavy bleeding and an internal injury to him, police informed.
Friends and family members of Chaudhary on Saturday held a protest on road outside his house alleging that police didn’t book the accused on attempt to murder charge initially. They had registered the offence under IPC sections 324 (voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapon), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) and 506(2) (criminal intimidation) among others.
“Police had already submitted a report in court after registering the offence. The accused were booked for attempt to murder. We arrested three accused on the day of crime and one on Saturday,” said a police officer at Limbayat police station.
Those arrested earlier were Sumit Gupta, 23, Dipak Mishra, 23 and Vishal Upadhyay, 20. They do petty jobs to earn their livelihood. Dipak Pande, 18, was arrested on Saturday. “Pande had stabbed the victim with a knife,” said police.
In his complaint registered at Limbayat police station soon after he was attacked, Chaudhary alleged that the accused refused to pay after eating Chinese food at his eatery in Shreeji Arcade at around 11.30pm on January 26.
The accused attacked eatery employees and Chaudhary as well when asked to pay for the food. They also ransacked the food cart and damaged the furniture as well.
