Surat: A 10-year-old boy was killed and other seriously injured when a speeding water tanker of the Bharuch Nagarpalika rammed into the bicycle the duo was riding on Saturday morning.
Jairajsinh Chauhan, 10, a resident of Narayan nagar in Bharuch town went on a bicycle ride with his friend Jian Jadhav, after returning home from school. While Jairajsinh was riding the bicycle, Jian was riding pillion when the speeding tanker hit the duo near the traffic intersection at Sambhu Dairy in Bharuch town.
Police sources said that the children were immediately rushed to the New Civil Hospital where Jairajsinh was declared dead on admission. Jian is still fighting for his life.
Bharuch town police have registered a case of accident and arrested the driver, Gopal Narayan Solanki.
Talking to TOI, chief officer of Bharuch Nagarpalika, Sanjay Soni said, “The area where the accident took place remains congested throughout the day. Thus, there is no question of over-speeding by the vehicle. We gathered information from the accident spot and found out that the boys lost balance and fell down from their bicycle and got injured in the rear wheels of the tanker.”
Soni added, “Once the police investigation is over, we will order inquiry into the entire incident. Our deep sympathy is with the bereaved family. We will also urge the state R&B department to construct a speed breaker near the intersection to avert such accidents as the road where the accident took place falls under the department.”
