ALLAHABAD: Special Task Force (STF) on Saturday arrested four persons in Allahabad for allegedly supplying
rectified spirit to
illicit liquor manufacturers in the state.
The team also recovered 2,200 litre of rectified spirit, estimated to be worth Rs 11 lakh. The accused were identified as Ambuj Awasthi, Sopnu Shukla, Alok Patel and Yogendra Yadav. Awasthi, Shukla and Patel are residents of of Allahabad and Yadav is native to Kannauj.
Circle officer (STF) Navendu Kumar said, “STF had received tip-offs about the use of rectified spirit in manufacturing illicit liquor in various districts of eastern UP.”
On Friday, STF received a tip-off about a truck ferrying drums of rectified spirit having arrived in the city from Delhi. The truck was reported to be parked in Transport Nagar. “The informer had claimed that the drums were being loaded into a mini-truck and were to be supplied to Ambedkar Nagar and nearby districts in Bihar,” the CO said.
Based on the information, police raided the spot and recovered 2,200 litre of rectified drums from two mini-trucks. “Two persons were arrested from each of the two vehicles,” said CO STF.
During interrogation, the accused said they used to procure rectified spirit at a cost of Rs 25,000 per drum and sold them to smugglers at Rs 40,000 per drum. They also said that they were on their way to supply seven of the seized drums to one KK Pandey in Karchana and four drums to a house in Transport Nagar.
The CO said that efforts were on to arrest KK Pandey and others involved in this racket.
An FIR in connection with the case has been registered at Dhoomanganj police station.
