HYDERABAD: A day after the Ink Wash Summit was held in the city with sanitation as one of the primary agenda, municipal
administration and urban development (MAUD) minister KT Rama Rao on Saturday directed the Greater
Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) to build 500 toilets in the next two months. However, only a few smart
washrooms and eco loos will be constructed.
Civic officials are in the process of identifying locations to install these washrooms. “The location of these public toilets will be made available on a mobile app,” said a GHMC official.
These one-of-its-kind washrooms will be built on the lines of those set up by Loo Café which do not require water or septic tanks. The eco loos will use Swedish technology, which converts waste into liquid fertiliser and manure, which are primarily located in Jordan Mountains, heritage sites and places where there is water scarcity and no place to install a
septic tank.
The washrooms will have integrated live toilet management system to monitor smell, footfall and hygiene from a command control centre. “This technology has been recognised as a path-breaking innovation by the
United Nations,” said
Abhishek Nath, founder of Loo Café.
