ALLAHABAD: Crime branch of the district police have busted a cricket betting
racket and arrested 29 persons from a building in Rani Mandi area under Attarsuiya police station, on late Friday night.
The arrseted persons were allegedly betting on India-New Zealand cricket match underway in Wellington, New Zealand. Police have also recovered cash worth over Rs 2.15 lakh.
ASP Anil Yadav said that on a tip-off, a team led by CO Civil Lines Brijnarayan Singh and SWAT in-charge/SHO-Ghoorpur Vrindavan Rai raided the building and nabbed 29 people betting on the cricket match. The police recovered cash worth Rs 2.15 lakh and 10 live bullets of 32 bore, he added.
An FIR in this connetion has been registered at Attarsuiya police station under relevant sections and the accused have been sent to jail, police said.
