Afghan national Ibadatullah alias Abid was held from passport office in Mahmoorganj area under the limits of Bhelupur police station with fake Aadhar and voter identity cards. He was nabbed by the police while trying to procure Indian passport with fake documents, arranged by one Alam of Phoolpur area in Azamgarh district.
Alam was taken under custody on Saturday, said SP city Dinesh Kumar Singh adding that police are now probing as to how he managed to arrange fake documents.
According to the police, Abid, along with a youth, reached shops providing services of filling on-line application for the passpor, near passport office on Friday afternoon. As he could not speak English or Hindi properly, the shop keepers guided him to passport office. As he reached the passport office, the employees found his activities doubtful and alerted the police.
The police reached there and arranged a translator after Abid’s name and nationality became clear. The officials of anti-terror squad and other agencies also joined the police in interrogation. During initial interrogation Abid divulged that he had become friend of Alam through Facebook and later reached India on January 11 to meet him as he was interested in seeing urban and rural lifestyle of India.
He also divulged that his Aadhar and voter ID card was arranged by Alam. On Saturday, the police raided Alam’s place in Phoolpur area and took him under custody for further investigation. Police initially recovered the passport-visa of Abid in Azamgarh, said Singh. On being interrogated, Alam divulged that Abid was interested in getting an Indian passport for which minimum two documents, of nationality and other details of individuals is a must.
He revealed that on finding out that one Mohd Javed of his village had never applied for passport, Alam got voter ID card in the name of Javed along with his personal details using Abid’s photograph, said Singh adding, that on the basis of the same voter ID card he got Aadhar card for Abid.
The role of the staff and officials concerned is also being investigated, said Singh. After initial investigation, an FIR would be lodged against Abid, Alam and those, involved in enbling them to procure voter ID and Aadhar cards, he said.
