Nagpur: Gittikhadan police on Saturday arrested dreaded goon Akhilesh alias Pappu Mishra for allegedly threatening and demanding Rs 2 lakh per month from an employee of AG Enviro, which is one of the two garbage collection agencies of NMC for allowing them to work in Gittikhadan area.
Senior PI of Gittikhadan police station, Sunil Gangurde, said, “The accused had demanded Rs 2 lakh per month from the complainant for letting him carry out work in the area. The complainant had initially gone to Sadar police station, but the incident took place under our jurisdiction and so, we registered the case and arrested him.”
Gittikhadan police officials have booked Mishra for extortion, assault and criminal intimidation.
According to police, Sachin Chavhan, a vigilance executive at AG Enviro, was approached by Mishra who claimed to be the president of Akhil Yuva Sangram Kamgar Union. Mishra demanded Rs1 lakh for his organization and an additional Rs1 lakh for himself for allowing Chavhan to carry out garbage collection in the area.
He threatened to destroy and set on fire garbage collection vehicles if Chavhan did not comply with his demand. He also told Chavhan to employee 200 of his men.
“When I refused to agree to his demands, Mishra threatened me at different locations. He also came to the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) with around 40 people and ordered them to attack me,” said Chavhan.
Sources said that Mishra used to collect protection money commonly known as ‘hafta’ from employees of the previous garbage collecting agency. As the old agency was replaced by two new ones, he was threatening them and demanding money.
It is learnt that Mishra has around 25 offences registered against him, including rioting and robbery. In 2015, he was externed from the city limits for criminal activities.
