KANPUR: The police seized 693 pouches of illicit liquor worth Rs 30 lakh and fake stickers of a popular brand and arrested nine persons in Kanpur Dehat district on late Friday night.
“Nine persons were arrested for preparing illegal liquor,” said ASP Anoop Kumar. The arrested persons were identified as Ratnesh, Vineet, Sunil, Mukesh, Neeraj, Alok, Vijay, Banwari and Ajit.
They had been involved in preparing hooch since long, he said. “They had prepared hooch estimated to be worth around Rs 30 lakh to be supplied in nearby villages and pockets. Acting on a tip-off regarding the same, the police arrested the six miscreants, ASP added.
Kanpur Dehat police had intensified drive against groups involved in making country-made liquor targeting low-income groups in the remote areas.
