PIMPRI CHINCHWAD: Angry over lack of
water supply for nearly four days, residents of Kasarwadi locked senior officials of the civic body’s water
supply department in a room for four hours on Saturday.
"There was
no water supply in Kasarwadi in the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation area on Wednesday due to alternate day closure. On Thursday, water supply was shut down. Again, on Friday, there was no water due to alternate day closure. As there was no water supply on Saturday morning, the residents burst into anger and locked the officials in a room of the elevated storage reservoir,” said BJP corporator Asha Shedge, who led the residents of her ward in protest.
"I called water supply department chief Makrand Nikam, joint city engineer Ramdas Tambe, executive engineer Pravin Ladkat and other local officials to the spot. They assured that water supply would start at 10am, but in vain. So, the residents decided to lock the officials till the water supply resumes.”
Meanwhile, municipal commissioner Shravan Hardikar assured her that the water supply would be restored at 4pm and requested that the officials be released. The officials were released around 2.30pm.
The water supply finally resumed around 4 pm, officials said.
