The Bharatiya Janata Party, in association with other organisations will take out padayatras spreading the thoughts of Mahatama Gandhi in Dakshina Kannada between October 20 and November 5, according to Sanjeeva Matandoor, president, Dakshina Kannada unit of the party and also MLA of Puttur.
Addressing presspersons here on Wednesday, he said the padayatras would be apolitical. In all, it would cover 1,200 km in eight Assembly segments in the district. He said the padayatras would cover 150 km in each Assembly segment.
It will be launched on October 20 at 8.30 a.m. from the Town Hall in the city to Mangala Stadium at Lalbagh. Nalin Kumar Kateel, Member of Parliament and president of State unit of the party, Kota Srinivasa Poojary, minister in-charge of Dakshina Kannada and Minister for Ports, Fisheries, Inland Water Transport and Muzari and all MLAs of the party will participate in the district-level inaugural event.
He said the party at the national level has decided to highlight the Gandhian ideals especially to make younger generation to understand the Father of the Nation. Hence the padayatras have been arranged in each Assembly, Lok Sabha segments in the country between October 2 and January 31. The padayatras would highlight the ‘swadeshi’ principle of Mahatma Gandhiji along with his stress on maintaining cleanliness, promotion of khadi and de-addiction.
To a question on some BJP workers supporting Nathuram Godse, the BJP leader said it that could be the individual’s views and not the opinion or the view of the BJP. “What Prime Minister Naredra Modi, national president Amit Shah and working president J. P. Nadda say are the party views,” he said.
