JAIPUR: Rajasthan University employees might not get their October salary on time as the varsity’s budget has not been passed by the syndicate.
The year is about to end but the budget was yet to be passed by the university syndicate. The varsity administration has already held three meetings of the syndicate where the budget was proposed, but not cleared.
According to sources in the university, a few members in the syndicate have been creating a hurdle in this process as they have been demanding vice-chancellor R.K.Kothari’s resignation on allegations of corruption and pending ACB inquiry.
“There are many syndicate members who are demanding VC’s resignation and creating a hurdle in the process. But this stubborn behaviour is giving us sleepless nights because if the budget is not passed, our salaries especially in the month of Diwali will get stuck,” said a university professor.
University budget of around Rs 123 crore is pending due to which research, routine business such as purchase of equipment and stationery is stuck. A syndicate member, Ram Lakhan Meena, said they had refused to pass the budget on technical grounds.
“The budget was not approved by the finance committee before presenting it in the syndicate meeting. There were many technical glitches because of which it was difficult for us to pass the budget,” said Meena.
Meanwhile, university administration is confident that they would pay salary to employees on time. Registrar Harphool Singh Yadav said they would pay salary with the state grant that the university receives every year until the budget is passed by the syndicate.
However, as per rules, the university has to pass the budget to provide records of its expenditure to receive the grant from the state government. A professor said, “University administration has been getting salaries by giving special powers to the VC. This time, they might do the same, but the VC hasn’t received the permission and it will be difficult in the upcoming month.”
