BELAGAVI: Chief minister BS Yediyurappa almost cancelled his trip to campaign for BJP candidates in the fray in assembly elections in Maharashtra on Wednesday after his helicopter ride from Belagavi was delayed by over three hours.
Yediyurappa was scheduled to fly at 8.50am, but the chopper did not turn up even at 11am, leaving the CM fuming. He called up deputy chief minister Laxman Savadi, who was already in Maharashtra, and took him to task over the delay. It was Savadi’s job to arrange transport for the CM.
“It’s already badly delayed. What should I do by going there so late? I will return to Bengaluru,” Yediyurappa yelled at Savadi. Savadi apologised and said the helicopter would be along in a few minutes. The CM returned to Circuit House to rest. “I am already reeling with health issues and this sort of delay will never help,” he said. He eventually flew to Maharashtra.

Earlier, BS Yediyurappa said the candidates for the December 5 bypolls will be picked only after the Supreme Court delivers its verdict on the plea filed by disqualified MLAs. His comments come in the wake of a writ petition filed by state Congress president Dinesh Gundurao in the Karnataka high court, questioning the Election Commission’s decision to postpone the bypolls without imposing the election model code of conduct.
“These bypolls are important to the government and the BJP has planned to win all seats,” Yediyurappa said on Wednesday.
