PUNE: The crime branch on Tuesday nabbed 10 people for allegedly running a racket of creating fake documents in the Shivajinagar area.
The fake documents produced by the suspects were allegedly used in the courts in order to secure bail for several people arrested in relation to different cases in the city.
The police have intensified patrolling in the city to avert any untoward incident during the state assembly elections and the election campaigns.
A team comprising senior inspector Rajendra Mohite, sub inspectors Nilesh Mahadik and Kishor Tanpure, police constables Avinash Marathe, Bhausaheb Kondhare, Prasad Mokashi, Ramesh Garud, Pandurang Wanjale and others were patrolling the Shivajinagar area.
The team spotted a group of men and women acting in a suspicious manner. Upon conducting primary inquiry, it was revealed that the group was involved in the racket of creating fake documents. The group members allegedly prepared fake documents such as ration cards, 7/12 land extract, Adhaar card, and other crucial government-issued cards.
The crime branch team arrested Poonam Kamble (27), a resident of Pimple Gurav, Tehsin Jahagirdar (38), a resident of Chikhali, Mansoor Naikwadi (30), Sagar Gaikwad (28), Sanjay Dhaware (50) all residents of Nigdi, Santosh Ahiwale (34), Vijay Bharaskar (40), who are residents of Pimpri, Devanand Gutte (28) of Rajgurunagar, Sunil Gaikwad (50) of Alandi, and Avinash Bansode (28) of
Chinchwad.
The police have also seized a large number of fake documents from the possession of the people who made up the group. The suspects, according to the police, used to operate near the Shivajinagar court premises.
According to the police, the suspects would furnish the fake documents in the court claiming them to be genuine documents. The suspects would also stand surety in the courts. In this manner, the suspects allegedly stood surety for several persons, who had been arrested by the police in different offences. The police added that the suspects had been operating in such a manner for the last couple of years.
The police are now investigating how the suspects prepared the fake documents. The police investigation will also ascertain how the accused got in tough with persons who required them to help secure bail from the courts.
