When it comes to mid-size premium SUVs, the Porsche Macan has a bevy of rivals... on paper.

From the Alfa Romeo Stelvio, BMW X3 M Competition and the Mercedes-AMG GLC 43 there are several high-performance SUVs on the market.

In order to keep those rivals at bay, the Macan Turbo benefits from a face lift from Zuffenhausen.

More power

With a new 2.9-litre biturbo V6 engine, the Macan Turbo now has 324kW and 550Nm, resulting in a 4.3 second 0-100km/h sprint time and onto a claimed 270km/h top speed. It has 30kW more power compared to its predecessor.

The V6 engine is the one used in the Cayenne S and Panamera 4S.

Porsche says they've revamped the chassis and added high-performance Porsche Surface Coated Brakes (PSCB) as standard. The German automaker says this brings improved longitudinal and lateral dynamics.

As the Turbo is the top model in the range, it benefits from a Turbo-specific front end and the fixed roof spoiler with its double-wing design set.

There's a connection

Inside, Porsche has upgraded the infotainment system with a 27.6cm touchscreen featuring online navigation, offers comprehensive connectivity, and new digital functions.

There are several new equipment options including Traffic Jam Assist, a GT sports steering wheel, and wireless charging for smartphones.

Standard features are comprehensive and include adaptive 18-way leather sports seats, Alcantara headlining, brushed aluminium interior package, a BOSE Surround Sound system, 20" wheels and a sports exhaust system.
