PATNA: Huge rush of patients suffering from
fever with
dengue symptoms is seen at private hospitals and clinics in
Patna. Over 1500 dengue cases have been reported from different parts of the state capital this year so far.
Regional director (east) of Paras hospital, Dr Talat Halim, said there was huge increase in the number of dengue patients this month and 16 of them were undergoing treatment at the
intensive care unit (ICU). He said total 165 dengue patients had been admitted in October.
The medical director of a private hospital at Pataliputra Colony said 88 dengue patients had been admitted in October so far.
Even private clinics were witnessing the rush of patients with dengue symptoms, including high fever, rashes and joint pain. “We are getting at least six dengue positive cases daily and such drastic increase is being witnessed for the past 12 days,” said city-based physician Dr Diwakar Tejaswi.
He said the condition has worsened this year, both in terms of severity and intensity. “One must use net and cover the body properly and apply
mosquito repellent. There are anti-mosquito wipes available in the market,” he said.
He especially asked cardiac patients, who had earlier undergone bypass surgery or valve replacement, to be extra careful. “Such patients take anti-platelet agents and dengue worsens in such conditions,” he said.
