Vadodara: Every year around Diwali, Barodians look forward to celebrating the festival of lights with their families and friends and go out on vacation.
The period also turns out to be festive season for thieves and burglars as they try to break into as many houses as possible and target citizens in crowded areas.
However, this year police have chalked out elaborate plans to ensure that no thefts or burglaries take place during the days. On Wednesday, police held a meeting with with jewellers and angadiya firm owners on Wednesday.
“We will be patrolling every nook and corner but citizens’ cooperation is also necessary to make our plan successful,” said a senior police official.
During the Wednesday’s meeting, cops asked the jewellers and angadiya firm owners to remain vigilant inside their shops and offices and restore their CCTV cameras. “Thieves take advantage of crowded shops, so we have asked the owners to hire a person to monitor the live footage of CCTV cameras so that the culprit can be nabbed immediately,” the police officer said.
As a preventive measure, police will also be rounding up history-sheeters and suspects. An exercise has also been launched wherein the angadiya firm owners, private finance companies and jewellers will have to share details of their past and current employees. “If angadiya firms want to transfer cash they can approach local police station and we will be provide bandobast to them for free without asking any questions,” said joint commissioner of police K G Bhati.

“Different teams of detection and prevention of crime branches, special operations group, quick response teams have been formed. Cross patrolling of local cops will also be done so that there is police presence in areas at all times,” said deputy commissioner of police (crime) Jaydeepsinh Jadeja. Special watch will also be placed at malls and markets in the old city areas which witness footfall in thousands.
Guidelines of dos and don’ts have also been issued for citizens while going out on vacation or visiting the markets.
