ALLAHABAD: In a bid to create awareness on air pollution, an
Air Quality Index Monitor (AQIM) was inaugurated by GM North Central Railways (NCR) Rajiv Chaudhry at headquarters of the zone at Subedarganj on Wednesday.
This system is equipped with large LED display showing temperature, humidity, particulate matter (PM-5 &PM-10) and
carbon monoxide. Besides showing these important parameters of surrounding environment, LED screen also scrolls slogans for environment protection, reduction in plastic waste, conservation of water and electricity etc.
The air quality index indicates overall quality of air in the area based on level of different pollutants present in the atmosphere.
This air quality index monitor is installed with the aim to create awareness among railway employees as well as many visitors to NCR headquarters on daily basis.
Speaking on the occasion, the GM said, “It is our responsibility to save environment so as our next generation do not suffer for our inaction. He added that similar monitor are already installed at Allahabad and Agra Cantt junction for mass awareness purpose."
He also congratulated EnHM wing of Allahabad division for taking many initiatives towards environment protection and urged to complete environment related works on a mission mode. EnHM wing of NCR is also planning to conduct a survey at Allahabad junction station to assess efficacy of installed system as well as to make more people aware on harmful effects of air pollution.
Environment and housekeeping wing, which is nodal agency for environment related works, is also planning to record and share air quality index with passengers during Deepawali festival to educate people on adverse effect of fire crackers on our atmosphere which is expected to have a positive impact towards minimising use of fire crackers during festivals.
