GANDHINAGAR:
IAS officer Gaurav Dahiya, suspended after being found guilty of ‘moral turpitude’ by the state government, has reportedly claimed he is willing to undergo a paternity test to prove he has not fathered the baby girl with Delhi-based woman.
Replying to a chargesheet filed against him by the state government following a probe by a committee of officers, Dahiya has contended that the woman had
cheated him by claiming she was a medical student.
Dahiya had courted major controversy after the Delhi woman accused him of bigamy claiming that the IAS official had married her in Tirupati Balaji temple despite not being divorced from his first wife. The charges led to his suspension.
Top sources said Dahiya has also reportedly said in his written statement that the woman was married to someone else, even when she was in a relationship with him. He added in his submission that she had hidden this fact from him.
Sources in the government said Dahiya has also denied marrying the woman.
In his two-part submission that runs into more than 300 pages, Dahiya is said to have stated that he was in a relationship with the woman for a very brief period, during which she used a fake name and fraudulently posed as a medical student. “He has presented the real name and the marriage certificate of the Delhi based woman with some other man. Dahiya has said that the baby girl is born from marriage with another man,” sources said.
Sources added that Dahiya, in his reply, claimed that he developed a relationship with the woman with bonafide intention and had informed her that the process of divorce with his first wife was under way. Sources added, “Dahiya has presented records in support of his claim that he had paid her a lot of money, but her demands kept increasing by the day, forcing him to end the relationship. These records are yet to be verified.”
The general administration department in its order titled, “Suspension of Dr
Gaurav Dahiya, IAS (RR: GUJ:2010)...’’, had stated: “...disciplinary proceedings against Dr. Gaurav Dahiya are contemplated for serious charges of misconduct and
moral turpitude... the Government of
Gujarat, in exercise of powers conferred by clause(a) of sub-rule(1) of the Rule -3 of the All India services(discipline & appeal) rules, 1969, hereby places Dr Gaurav Dahiya, IAS under suspension with immediate effect.’’
The GAD suspended him after a high-power committee of women IAS officers carried out a fact finding probe into allegations of bigamy, intimidation and cheating against Dahiya.
