In a succession of protests, the left parties organised demonstrations across the district on Wednesday as part of the nationwide agitation flagging the worst economic slowdown faced by the country under the BJP-led NDA’s stewardship.
Protesters affiliated to various left parties staged demonstrations here in various locations condemning the Centre. The country was facing the worst economic slowown faced ever, and the unemployment rate was at 9.96%. The current economic crisis was the culmination of the disruptive policies taken by the government without consultations, the demonstrators alleged. In Dharmapuri, protests were held by the Communist parties outside the Central government establishments.
Staff Reporter adds: In Salem, stating that various steps taken by the Central government has crippled the economic growth of the country, Communist parties staged a demonstration near the Collectorate.
Organised by the left parties, the demonstration was led by CPI State Secretary R. Mutharasan and State Committee Member S. Kannan.
Speakers said that the country was facing a major economic crisis as industries were shut and workers were losing jobs, while the small and medium sized units face the slowdown.
