Mumbai: Unable to trace teen daughter, man jumps in front of train, dies

Relatives of Chembur resident Pancharam Rithadia held demonstrations for two days
MUMBAI: Fed up of being unable to trace his missing daughter, a 40-year-old man committed suicide by jumping before a running train at Tilak Nagar on Sunday.
Pancharam Rithadia, the deceased, left a suicide note where he mentioned that the Nehru Nagar police did not lend him an ear. He also mentioned that five people linked with his daughter's disappearance were harassing him. The GRP, on Tuesday, registered a case of abetment against the five. Rithadia's relatives carried out demonstrations before the railway police on Monday and Tuesday.
Rithadia, a shoe maker, lived in Chembur's Thakar Bapa Colony with his wife and children. Seven months ago, his 17-year-old daughter went missing. Rithadia registered a missing complaint with the Nehru Nagar police station on April 25. As per SC guidelines, as the girl is a minor it was converted into a case of abduction.

According to Rithadia's family, he held one Bhagchand Fulwaria responsible for his daughter's disappearance. Rithadia had told his wife that four associates of Fulwaria had been harassing him. He was also troubled by memories of his daughter. On Sunday, he left home under the pretext of getting his phone recharged. When his son, Sunil, managed to get in touch with him at 8.30pm, Rithadia told him he was going to commit suicide. Sunil rushed to Tilak Nagar station. He found a crowd on the tracks and spotted his father lying injured.
The GRP moved Rithadia to Sion Hospital where the doctors pronounced him dead. "A suicide note was found in his pocket and Sunil identified the handwriting to be his father's," said senior inspector Rajendra Pal.
