COIMBATORE: The city police on Wednesday arrested five people, including two college students, for possession of 1.5kg ganja from Saravanampatti.
A police team that raided an apartment in the area on Tuesday after receiving a tip-off had nabbed the students V Vellarasu, 19, from Madurai and M Raja, 20, from Karur.
“Preliminary investigation revealed that R Infant Raja, 21, S Vikki, 19, and A Ajithkumar, 21, who were staying with them, have been procuring ganja for them from Palani and Dindugal,” a police officer said.
“The three are history-sheeters. The Ramanthapuram police were on the lookout for Vikki and Ajithkumar. They had gone underground and were staying with the students. They were engaged in the sale of ganja at Saravanampatti,” the office added.
The arrested people were charged under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985 and remanded in judicial custody.
Police also seized Rs 1,750 and a two-wheeler from them.
