MUMBAI: The father of Andheri resident
Nivedita Bijlani who committed suicide Tuesday says she was already undergoing
postpartum depression. "However, the loss of her savings in PMC Bank was like a giant boulder that fell on her head at this already difficult time."
Nivedita, 39, was an attending physician practised in
Ohiohealth Grant Medical Center, USA. She lived in the US with her American husband
Jesse Doze and was currently in Mumbai.
On Tuesday, she overdosed on certain pills following which she passed away. She leaves behind a teenage daughter and 18-month old son. Her father said, "We are unable to deal with her loss. Everybody is just crying day and night."
Wednesday evening, the body was in the morgue. "My son has gone to bring it home after which we will prepare for the last rites," Bijlani said.
The family lives on the fifth floor of
Swajan Building of Model Town colony, Andheri.
Nivedita is believed to have held sizeable deposits in the Versova branch of PMC Bank in Manish Nagar, where scores of depositors have been assembling to seek their money each day.
