COIMBATORE: The Centre for Women’s Studies of PSG College of Arts & Science on Wednesday attempted to enter the
Limca Book of Records by having the largest number of students participate in a breast
cancer awareness programme at a single location.
As many as 10,282 students and staff members stood together to form a pink ribbon on the football ground. The women wore pink. The men, dressed in white, formed a ring around the ribbon formation.
The event was organized to create awareness on cancer, especially
breast cancer and cervical cancer.
According to Global Statistics May 2019, a woman is affected by cancer every two minutes. As per the 2016 data, the occurrence was one in every eight minutes.
Guest of honour Dr J S Bhuvaneswaran, director of the PSG Institute of Medical Sciences and Research, stressed on the importance of regular screening. Chief guest oncologist Dr Madulika Vijayakumar highlighted the need to sensitize women regarding regular cancer screening.
