A 10-year-old girl was killed as a portion of a five-storey building located near Khar Gymkhana in Mumbai collapsed on Tuesday. 

The girl, identified as Mahi Motwani, who was trapped under debris was retrieved and taken to Lilavati Hospital where she was declared brought dead.

The incident took place at 17th road in Khar West near gymkhana when a portion of five-storey Pooja Building collapsed, trapping two guards and the girl. 

A rescue operation was launched with Fire Brigade, Mumbai police, National Disaster Relief Force (NDRF) and officials from the BMC at the site.

Soon the building was evacuated using Mumbai fire brigade's ladders and rubble was cleared where the girl was trapped. 

Relatives of the girl who were with her at the hospital said last week the building started shaking and residents evacuated it out of fear. After the incident, some repairing and reconstruction was being done on Tuesday when the incident took place. 

They said the workers were repairing the building without putting any support base to the building.
