Shopping for wedding season this year? Read this before you add another lehenga to cart
Bride, bridesmaid or guest, tulle lehengas are never amiss in a wedding wardrobe. The dreamy, wispy fabric brings a certain certain charm to your ethnic look, and when styled right, can serve you well for almost any wedding event on your roster, whether it’s a low-key mehandi function or a glamorous reception. Being lightweight in nature, the material also promises comfort to anyone who wears it, making it ideal for long sangeet nights spent dancing on the floor. We dive into celebrity archives to show you the best ways to add a tulle lehenga to your own repertoire.
Priyanka Chopra had eight functions on her wedding itinerary last year—a mehandi, sangeet and two bridal ceremonies in Jodhpur, and four receptions across Delhi, Mumbai, and the US. The actor made to sure to tap into the allure of a tulle lehenga for one of her Mumbai receptions, picking a pastel Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla number to celebrate with her industry friends. Her lehenga featured a full sleeved lace blouse and custom tulle spring blossom skirt, and had tiny organza and chiffon flowers in ivory and pink, as well as crystals and beads, peppered throughout.
But Chopra wasn’t the only one who favoured tulle lehengas during her wedding celebrations. Sister-in-law Sophie Turner also picked an embroidered creation by Sabyasachi for the actor’s Delhi reception. The honey beige lehenga complemented Turner’s skin tone perfectly, and was styled with traditional Indian jewellery.
More recently, Mira Rajput Kapoor also opted for a pastel pink tulle lehenga by Summer by Priyanka Gupta for a friend’s wedding. The young mother-of-two highlighted her pearl embroidered blouse by draping her dupatta around her arms, and keeping her accessories minimal—she wore it with nothing but a polki choker.
Meanwhile, Janhvi Kapoor gave tulle lehengas a risqué spin with her high shine Falguni Shane Peacock number, worn with a sequinned bustier blouse, minus the necklace. A pair of statement earrings was the only accessory we spotted on her.
And Pooja Hegde demonstrated the easiest way to inject a touch of colour to a soft-hued monotone lehenga set—with multi-coloured navratna jewellery.
Tulle lehengas also have a lot to offer to those who prefer their ethnic ensembles to be colourful. Take Khushi Kapoor’s Manish Malhotra floral lehenga, for instance. Her outfit featured a strapless pleated tulle top and a matching lehenga, both in a pretty shade of pink, and came embroidered with pink blooms.
Sonakshi Sinha gave a nod to the yellow trend with her Falguni Shane Peacock ensemble. Her lehenga featured heavy embroidery on the skirt with white threads, and she styled with a gorgeous set of chaandbalis.
