DK Shivakumar's loyalists upset as Sonia meets only P Chidambaram in Tihar

BENGALURU: Supporters of Congress leader DK Shivakumar, who has been arrested by the Enforcement Directorate over alleged money laundering, were upset on Monday after party president Sonia Gandhi and former PM Manmohan Singh did not meet him in Tihar Jail. Sonia and Singh had visited the prison to meet P Chidambaram.
“They should have met Shivakumar. It would have boosted his morale and that of party workers in Karnataka,” said a Congress worker from Ramanagara, the home district of Shivakumar.
But the party leadership clarified that Sonia and Singh could not meet Shivakumar on the same visit because of prison rules.
“The jail manual allows visitors to meet only one inmate during a visit,” said Congress spokesperson VS Ugrappa. He added the party high command was fully behind Shivakumar.
