As of this week, the Toyota Corolla goes after the likes of the Ford Focus Active with the new Corolla Trek.
Available exclusively on Touring Sports models, it features a 20 mm (0.8 in) increased ground clearance, honeycomb grille, plastic cladding on the lower part of the body, 17-inch machined alloy wheels, LED headlights, fog lamps, rear privacy glass and a ‘Trek’ logo on the tailgate.
The interior has went through a few changes too, getting two-tone textile upholstery, wood trim and ‘Trek’ door sills. Other on-board equipment includes the 7-inch TFT infotainment screen, 7-inch TFT display in the instrument cluster and the latest iteration of the Toyota Safety Sense. The latter adds intelligent auto high beams, traffic sign recognition, lane trace assist, pre-collision safety with day and night pedestrian and cyclist detection, and adaptive cruise control with auto stop/start.
For the new Corolla Trek, Toyota has prepped three different powertrains. The lineup kicks off with the 1.2-liter turbo, followed by the 1.8-liter unit and 2.0-liter hybrid.
The Japanese automaker already showcased the Corolla Trek to the public, during the ‘La Vuelta’ race held between August 24 and September 15, subsequent to the partnership signed with Trek Bicycle. As part of the agreement, they provided 16 Corolla Treks as support vehicles for the Trek-Segafredo World Tour Teams, during the European cycle racing events, all of them powered by the 2.0-liter hybrid mill.
Full specs and pricing details for the European market are yet to be announced.
