New Delhi, Urging the private security guards provider to shape up the system to help Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a $5 trillion Indian economy, Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday said this sector has huge potential to generate 2-3 crore jobs opportunities.
The home minister was speaking at the national launch of private security agency license portal here which will help in making the sector formal and transparent. On the occasion Minister of State for Home Affairs G Kishan Reddy launched a print media awareness campaign about the portal and said he was informed that the private security agency is one of the largest jobs providing sector after real estate and construction.
“90 lakh is nothing. This sector has potential to induct 2-3 crore people. There is only condition that you have to adopt the system of registration. If we see the data there is no bad situation. We have the best ratio between police and private security guards in the globe. There are 24 per cent police and 76 per cent private security guards. When 2/3rd of entire security lies on the private security guards, the responsibility rises up also,” Home Minister Amit Shah said.
“The government has safeguarded your interest from the people who wanted to come through the foreign direct investment route in this sector. So it’s a duty of the private security agencies to be ready to make Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of making India a five trillion dollars economy. It is a direct link that without private security guards, its impossible for companies and trade to grow. I believe that they are the first line responder. They first confront against the illegal activities,” he added.
He also stated that there is a scope to enhance the portal and in next six months all the recommendations and suggestions from the controlling officers of states will be considered. Currently, there are 17,000 private security agencies operating throughout the country. Out of which only 60 per cent are registered. He vouched for doubling the number of registered agencies.
“I want the number of registered private security agencies to be doubled. There is a huge opportunities in this sector left. As much as we make it formal, credible and take it to the public, the work will change as much. If the number of registered agencies go up, I assure you all, there will be no shortage of works for anyone and in-fact it will go up,” Mr Shah said.
“After reviewing this portal, we have launched it today but we have decided that in next 90 days this portal will be available in all official Indian languages,” the minister added. In a bid to make the process easy and simple for those agencies which are based in other state and want to work in another one, the minister said that the number of formalities would be reduced.
“If an agency from Gujarat wants to operate in Bihar, the registration process would be simplified in Bihar since it has fulfilled all the criteria in Gujarat. There will be fewer requirements of formalities,” he said.Mr Shah also said that the awareness campaign will be publicized in the Indian languages only.
Informing about 90 per cent of police stations are now online, he said it would help the agencies in hiring the guards easily.
“There was a major drawback of private security agency in police verification. 90 per cent police stations across the country have been linked to internet and now you can check their police records through the home ministry. We will make available the police records online of people living in the jurisdiction of 90 per cent of police stations.
So that you can induct them, freely. You can cross check the already existing security guards record now also,” the home minister added. He also suggested to hire trained personnel like ex-servicemen and NCC cadets and said, “We have a huge potential of trained personnel. I would suggest you to induct NCC cadets.”
For the welfare of the security guards, the home minister suggested the representatives of private security agencies not to transact in cash, make fuller use of Jan Dhan bank accounts, provide social security schemes like insurance and Atal Pension Yojna.
