24 polling stations in the constituency identified as critical and vulnerable

As many as 39 flying squads and static surveillance teams each have been formed to enforce the model code of conduct for the October 21 bypoll to the Vikravandi Assembly constituency.

Chairing a meeting at the Collectorate on Monday, Collector L. Subramanian said each team headed by an official in the rank of Executive Magistrate would perform round-the-clocking monitoring on poll expenses of parties and candidates.

Accounting and video surveillance teams were constituted as well. The surveillance teams would comprise videographers and audit personnel while policemen and officers would constitute the flying squads.

As many as 24 of 275 polling stations in the constituency were identified as critical and vulnerable. In addition to web cameras and polling personnel, micro-observers would be deployed in these booths to monitor the process.

Mr. Subramanian said as many as 658 ballot units, 544 control units and 528 VVPATs required for polling were kept ready.

Active helpline

A voter’s helpline has been set up and information on polling booths could be obtained by dialling 1950.

As per the final electoral roll, the total voters in Vikravandi is 2,23,387 — 1,11,607 men, 1,11,546 women, 209 service electors and 25 persons of the third gender.
