NEW DELHI: The Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi on Tuesday extended the last to apply for GATE 2020 examination by two days.
The candidates who wish to apply for Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2020 can submit their application form online without paying late fee up to September 26, 2019 . However, by paying the late fee, the candidates can apply for GATE 2020 up to October 1, 2019.
The notice posted on the official website reads: "Because of heavy traffic load in the GATE application portal, the last date of application with normal fees has been extended up to 26th September."
Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is an examination conducted jointly by the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore and the seven Indian Institutes of Technology (at Bombay, Delhi, Guwahati, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Madras and Roorkee) on behalf of the National Coordination Board (NCB)-GATE, Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India.
Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is basically an examination on the comprehensive understanding of the candidates in various undergraduate subjects in Engineering/Technology/Architecture and post-graduate level subjects in Science. GATE 2020 will be conducted for 25 subjects (also referred to as "papers") and it would be distributed over 1st, 2nd, 8th & 9th of February 2020. The GATE examination centres are spread in different cities across India, as well as, in six cities outside India. The examination would be purely a Computer Based Test (CBT).

Delay in getting OTP
If there is a delay in getting the OTP for verification, you may proceed for payment with verification of any one either email id or mobile number. You have to verify remaining one at later stage.
Application Status: Under Scrutiny/Under Process
If the status of your application is "Under Scrutiny/Under Process". You need not worry. Wait till the scrutiny team process your application. Only those candidates whose application need to be rectified in Photo/Signature/Supporting document, will get automatic email/SMS. The Scrutiny process will continue till few days even after the application portal is closed.
Corrections concerning Gender, Category, Exam Paper, Exam City, Name etc., please wait for announcement.
Multiple Payments: In case the candidate has made multiple payments, only the successful payment will be considered for GATE 2020 application.
For unsuccessful payments, candidates will get the refund in same account automatically.

Use of GATE score for Employment
In the past, several Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) have used GATE scores to shortlist the candidates for employment. A few such organizations are: Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL), Gas Authority of India Limited (GAIL), Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL), National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC), Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL), Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) and Power Grid Corporation of India (PGCI).
