PATNA: Altogether 93,488 patients have been treated under Ayushman Bharat Yojana or Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PMJAY) in 712 empanelled hospitals of the state since the launch of the scheme in September last year.
However, the number of people treated under the scheme is far from satisfactory as there are 5.40 crore beneficiaries of the scheme in the state. Just 21 lakh people have so far been given the golden card, which is used for availing the benefits under this scheme.
The data till September 20 was shared by state health department secretary Lokesh Kumar, who is also the chief executive officer of Bihar Suraksha Samiti, during an event to mark the completion of one year of Ayshman Bharat scheme at Adhiveshan Bhavan here on Monday. Lokesh said when the scheme was launched in September last year, only three people were treated under it in a month in Bihar. “Now, 15,000 people are being treated under the scheme in the state per month,” he added.
Of the 712 empanelled hospitals in the state, 565 are public hospitals and 147 private ones. The health secretary said efforts were on to empanel more private hospitals. Lokesh said 5,697 patients from Bihar were treated in hospitals outside the state under the scheme in one year.
However, health department principal secretary Sanjay Kumar expressed concern over the performance of medical colleges and hospitals under Ayushman Bharat scheme in the state and said only 758 patients could be treated under it at Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) and 185 at Nalanda Medical College and Hospital. He asked the civil surgeons to ensure cleanliness in the hospitals and proper behaviour with patients and attendants by the hospital staff.
Sanjay said there was a need to give golden cards to more beneficiaries. He assured deputy chief minister Sushil Kumar Modi and health minister Mangal Pandey that the state would perform better in the next six months.
Sanjay also expressed concern over less number of operations in government hospitals in comparison to private ones and asked doctors to improve in this parameter. He asked the civil surgeons to check why inpatient department was not performing according to expectation.
Sri Krishna Medical College and Hospital, Muzaffarpur, was declared the best performing medical college in the state where 3,830 patients were treated under Ayushman Bharat scheme. Nalanda district hospital was awarded in the category of district hospital for treating 936 patients, while in the category of primary health centre, Jandaha PHC in Vaishali was awarded for treating 889 patients under the scheme.
SuMo: Include more private hospitals: Deputy CM Sushil Kumar Modi on Monday congratulated PM Narendra Modi on completion of one year of Ayushman Bharat scheme. Addressing a function to mark the occasion, the deputy CM said the Centre has so far spent Rs 7.50 crore for the treatment of 84,55,000 people in the country under the Ayushman Bharat scheme.
He asked the health department to include more private hospitals and provide golden cards to more people so that they could avail the benefits of the Ayushman Bharat scheme. The deputy CM warned the health department and hospitals against anomalies in execution of the scheme. He said 97 hospitals across the country have so far been de-empanelled for indulging in malpractices.

The deputy CM said 11 new medical colleges will come up in the state soon to cater to the needs of patients. He asked the health department to find out why fertility rate in Bihar was much more than many other states, especially neighbouring West Bengal.
Health minister Mangal Pandey said now the poor could get themselves treated without spending a penny. He thanked the PM for standing true to his words and serving the poor. Pandey also appreciated CM Nitish Kumar for keenly monitoring the scheme.
