HYDERABAD: Two daily wage workers who entered a sump at an under-construction site in Raidurgam to carry out cleaning work died on Monday. The deceased were Afroz and Imran. Another worker, who was about to enter the 10-feet deep sump, saw Afroz and Imran struggling inside. He alerted his colleagues, who sought help.
Directorate of Enforcement Vigilance and Disaster Management (EVDM) of GHMC rushed to the spot . “We received a call at 12:30pm. We took the men out using ropes. Afroz was still breathing but Imran wasn’t. The water in the sump was not too deep. So, it’s not possible for them to drown. Lack of oxygen could be the reason for their death,” said an EVDM official. Afroz succumbed while undergoing treatment.
Raidurgam police said that they both got into the sump to attend centring work, as construction for the slab over the sump was being done. Police said the under-construction house was owned by one Shiva Kumar. A case under Section of 174 CrPc (suspicious death) was registered.
Officials of Telangana state disaster response & fire services also entered the sump with oxygen masks. “After we received the call, EVDM officials tried to save the duo, but unfortunately they died,” said Vishwajit Kampati, director of EVDM. Afroz is a resident of Borabanda and Imran is from Zaheerabad.
