CHANDIGARH: After the ban of the e-cigarettes, the UT health department has directed all those who have stored e-cigarettes, to deposit their stock at the nearest police station. The director Health Services (DHS), UT, G Dewan, laid down the penalty as issued by the gazette notification issued on September 18.
Imprisonment up to one year or fine up to Rs 1,00,000 or both will be applicable on anyone who contravenes the provisions with regard to production, manufacturing, export, import, transport, sale distribution and advertisement of e-cigarette. Also for subsequent offence, imprisonment up to three years and fine up to Rs 5, 00,000 will be applicable and it shall be a cognizable offence.
For storage of the e-cigarettes, there will be imprisonment up to six months or fine up to Rs 50,000 or both. "As such all the owners of e-cigarettes are directed to comply with the aforesaid ordinance in letter and spirit failing which legal action shall be initiated against them in accordance with law," mentioned the directions issued by the DHS, UT.
