Odissi dancer Gaurie Dwivedi was conferred with Vysakhi Natyasri Award by the Nataraj Music and Dance Academy at a function organised at Kalabharati auditorium on Sunday.
On the occasion, Ms. Dwivedi began her performance with a ‘pushpanjali’ followed by ‘Dhyaye Suvarna Varna’, a ballet originally choreographed of late Guru Gangadhar Pradhan depicting the Goddess as the slayer of Mahishasura, and Shumbha and Nishumbha. Her concluding piece was Bilahari Pallavi in Raag Bilahari and set to ‘taal ektaali.
A disciple of late Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra, Ms. has also learnt from Guru Sujata Mohapatra. An economist by training, Ms. Dwivedi has been teaching and performing dance for the past 15 years.
Trained in two dance styles, Ms. Dwivedi has performed at many prestigious dance festivals in India and abroad. Her most recent performance was at the Swami Haridas Sangeet Avum Nritya Mahotsav in Vrindavan earlier this month.
