National conference on physiotherapy and rehabilitation held

VADODARA: The College of Physiotherapy, a constituent college of Sumandeep Vidyapeeth in Vadodara had organized a national conference on physiotherapy and rehabilitation.
Dr B D Athani, principal consultant, directorate of general health services of Government of India was the chief guest for the inauguration ceremony.
Dr M M Prabhakar, medical superintendent of civil hospital, Ahmedabad was the guest of honour during the function on Friday.
The speakers included those from various specialties including orthopaedics, physiotherapy, speech therapy, prosthetics and orthotics, assistive technology, occupational therapy and community rehabilitation.
Athani delivered a speech on 'rehabilitation in India: past, present and future'. He spoke about the importance of understanding physiotherapy and rehabilitation.
He said that rehabilitation is complex and various professionals are involved in treating a single patient. "Government is implementing various programmes keeping rehabilitation of disabled in mind and many other programs are in pipeline that will be implemented soon," he said.
Prabhakar spoke on how physiotherapy and rehabilitation has evolved in Gujarat. "Gujarat government has created posts for physiotherapists in community health centres (CHC) which had been filled up. Creating posts for physiotherapists in CHC has helped in reaching out to communities. Physiotherapy education also has developed very rapidly in the last 20 years," he said.
