Wall at Yadadri’s under-construction temple city collapses

A nearly 30-foot-high retaining wall at the construction site of Yadadri temple city collapsed early morning on Monday. The reason still remains unclear.

The incident came to light late on Monday evening when a few videos went viral on WhatsApp groups.

According to information from the site, the retaining wall located at the foot in the entry way to the presidential suites came down at around 5. 30 a.m. Officials soon engaged some workers to rebuild the wall, but a few had already captured the collapsed wall with scenes of eroded soil beneath it on their phones.

Continuous rains in the district, and a vehicle accident at the particular site are some reasons, a few contractors alleged. But an official explanation to the cause was not available.

The current works are part of Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao’s recent instructions, when he visited the shrine in the first week of September to inspect temple redevelopment works. As per Mr. Rao’s strict instructions, the main temple — to conduct the Maha Sudarshana Yagam and the presidential suites to accommodate dignitaries from across the world, are to be ready by February 2020.

Recent reports by officials state that more than 70% works of the presidential and the VIP suites have been completed.
