TNCC president K.S. Alagiri on Sunday said the failures of the Centre and the State would be highlighted during the campaign for the upcoming Nanguneri bypoll, where the party is contesting.

“[Prime Minister] Modi is an illusion. It has now started to wear off,” he said, referring to the economic slowdown.

The industries in the State should first be preserved before trying to attract investments, he said talking to journalists at the Thoothukudi airport, referring to the foreign tour of Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami.

He said that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi would be invited to campaign in the Nanguneri bypolls.

Mr. Alagiri, turning his attention to other issues, said that a padayatra would be taken out in Kanniyakumari district on the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi as the place had a close connection with the father of the nation.
