These storytellers are on mission to inspire, interact

MANGALURU: A year ago, a casual meeting by a group of friends from Kerala, mostly studying in Bengaluru and Mangaluru, led to the formation of ‘Storey’ or ‘Stories Revolutionary’. Their aim is to interact, inspire and redefine storytelling, mostly through Instagram. The core members have formed Ulsaha committee, aimed at spreading love and hugs through the various events they conduct.
At Brick House, a café in the city, the team organised Thugs N’ Tales on Sunday. This is an evening filled with music, storytelling, poetry, reading, laughter therapy and other activities. Nearly 50 people registered as audience and there were eight performers.
Ahmed Sharooq Rahil, an M Pharm student at Nitte College of Pharmacy and co-lead in Thugs N’ Tales joined Storey as a writer and is in-charge of organising live interviews. Rahil told TOI, “Storey was started by a group of four friends during a casual meet and it currently has 35 members. The members are mostly students hailing from Kerala.” Rahil joined the team as a writer. Storey has a dedicated team of writers as they receive content in different languages other than English that has to be translated.
The core team members include Haris Aboobacker—a BBA graduate from St Aloysius College, Shibili Suhanah, an MSc student, Tanya Rafeeque, an MBA student in Bengaluru and Naifa Faiz- B Pharm student in Kannur. The team is further divided into six groups based on the events they conduct.

On the various events they organise, Rahil said: “Through Once Upon A Time—we camp in an area and experts will conduct various sessions including art therapy, meditation, dance and so on. Apart from conducting live interviews on IGlive, we introduce people to storytelling as an art. The Post Box stories is about features on Instagram. We conduct art therapy and other productive activities in orphanages and target specially-abled students through Social Stories and the aim is to conduct Thugs N’ Tales, an open mic event to encourage young talent, in eight cities including Kochi, Thrissur, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Kannur, Mangaluru, Kasargod and Manipal from September 21 to October 6.”
“We organise events with the support of sponsors and neither the performers nor the audience are charged,” said Aparna SN, co-lead, Thugs N’ Tales, Mangaluru.
