Gold seized from two air passengers

Officers of the Customs Air Intelligence Unit on Monday seized around half a kg of gold smuggled by two passengers at the international airport here.

The passengers, Nagoor Meeran and Mohamed Ali of Chennai, landed at the airport from Sharjah by an Air India Express flight.

Customs Air Intelligence Unit officers on suspicion conducted checks on Nagoor Meeran and seized three 24-karat gold chains weighing 336 gm from him. Checks were also conducted on Mohamed Ali from whom they seized a couple of gold chains weighing 250 gm of 24 karat.

Airport sources said both passengers smuggled the gold chains by concealing them in their inner wear. The two were frequent travellers and engaged in the illegal activity for profit. The total value of the seized gold chains was put at ₹22.06 lakh. Further investigation was on.
