Dumping of solid waste
Chennai Corporation has planned to stop dumping municipal solid waste in Perungudi and Kodungaiyur by December 2020.
According to Chennai Corporation officials, residents’ welfare associations in each of the 15 zones have been asked to cooperate with the civic officials to promote zero waste initiative and the successful implementation of the new system of waste management based on key performance indicators.
Currently, the Chennai Corporation is paying the private conservancy operator based on the “tonnage” of the waste collected from each neighbourhood.
