MUMBAI: Two travel agents were arresred for cheating 9 people of nearly Rs 3 lakh, with travel plan offers for Sri Lanka and Hong Kong. The MRA Marg police booked Santosh Joshi (53) and Prashant Javdekar (33) under the IPC section for cheating. Last week the police arrested another individual, Ranjit Naik, who allegedly worked with Joshi and Javdekar.
A police complaint was filed by Ganesh Dhole, a former customs official, who along with his wife and a few friends, was planning to visit Sri Lanka and Hong Kong. Dhole paid Rs 2.8 lakh to Santosh Travel in 2017. According to the police, he waited for a few months, but there was no response from the agents. Dhole and his friends approached the agency office to inquire. Joshi and Javdekar told them they were organising the tour, and would soon send tickets their way. Following that, the travel agents began avoiding Dhole and his friends - even when they tried to catch them at the office. The two told Dhole that they would return the money, but no refund was made. Dhole and the others then approached the police.
