MUZAFFARPUR: Senior superintendent of police
Manoj Kumar on Sunday constituted five teams comprising 18 police officers to identify the gang behind the killing of head constable Maleshwar Ram and snatching his service carbine at Markan Chowk under Sakra police station in the district on Saturday.

Krishna Murari Prasad, ASP (operation) Bimlendu Jha will lead one team each while the fifth will be a surveillance team. The police headquarters has also constituted a special investigation team (SIT) for the purpose. The team members reached
Muzaffarpur and started investigation.
Two motorbike-borne criminals had shot dead Ram and looted his carbine during vehicle-check drive. SSP Kumar said he was monitoring the investigation. “I visited nearly six villages adjacent to the spot and collected some information from the villagers about the criminals. Luckily, we have got CCTV footage from a shop. It has given some clues about the criminals,” he said, adding that a surveillance team is trying to find out some information from the tower dumping records of cellphones.

Meanwhile, Maleshwar was cremated at his Sitakund Hasanpur village in
Munger district on Sunday. He had joined the police force in 1986 as a constable and later got promoted as head constable. He was deputed at Markan checkpost last year.
