Gurugram, 22nd September 2019: On the occasion of World Car Free Day tomorrow and to create awareness about Pedestrian safety, residents of South City 1, Gurugram gathered today to participate in a ‘Short Walk’ from Unitech The Palms apartments, sector 41 to Shikshantar school, Sector 41.
About 60 residents looking for the #RightToWalkSafely went from door to door on the Unitech Patio road in South City 1. They requested homeowners and the Patio club to remove their encroachments – hedges, fences and parking – from at least 4 ft of footpaths nearest the road. They also handed over a copy of a petition with 165 signatures. Many homeowners agreed happily and promised to pull back their encroachments. Some said that they too felt imprisoned inside their homes in the absence of walkable footpaths.
The signed petition against encroachment on the footpath of internal road that runs between Shikshantar school and Signature Tower sector road will be submitted to Municipal Corporation Gurugram Commissioner, Police Commissioner Gurugram and GMDA CEO.
